About Skrik

Vokalensemblet Skrik is a choir without any genre limitations. Jerusalem by Egil Hovland, Missionary Man by Eurythmics, Die Stimme des Kinder by Jaakko Mäntyjärvi, The Fox of Ylvis, Under Pressure by Queen, Francis Poulenc julemotetter …

We aim to constantly evolve musically and want to give our audience a memorable experience from a varied repertoire. We sing primarily a cappella, ie without accompaniment. We hold our own concerts, participate in choir competitions, collaborate with other artists and take on assignments.

Vokalensemblet Skrik was formed in Bergen in 2004 and consists of 24 singers from the Bergen region. Vokalensemblet Skrik is currently ranked 131 in Interkultur’s World Ranking, among thousands of choirs from all over the world.

A selection of highlights from our history:

2014 – Premiere of five newly written choral works in a concert celebrating the anniversary of the Norwegian constitution

2013 – The Seven Last Words of Christ, Joseph Haydn – with The Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra

2012 – Winner of the national choir competition Syng For Oss (Grand Prix), 1. place in the Pop category and 2. place in category A+

2012 – HRH Prince Charles vists Bergen – entertainment by Vokalensemblet Skrik

2011 – Six christmas concerts with Frode Alnæs and the Church City Mission

2011 – The international choir competition In… Canto Sul Garda, 3. place in the Sacred category (with one of the highest ever Norwegian scores), and 3. place in the Pop category. Conductor Jon Flydal Blichfeldt was awarded the conductor award.

2011 – Finalist (Grand Prix) in the Grieg International Choir Festival in Bergen

2009 – Finalist (Grand Prix) in the National choir competition in Trondheim

2009 – Vokalensemblet Skrik rides the train – 100 years of the Bergen Line, concert at Bergen Station

2008 – Trip to Austria: Die Massnahme by Bertolt Brecht/Hanns Eisler, Vokalensemblet Skrik played the role of the choir at Salzburger Festspiele, directed by Tore Vagn Lid

2007 – Die Massnahme by Bertolt Brecht/Hanns Eisler during the Bergen International Festival

2005 – Debut concert in Haakon’s Hall, Bergen

During events and concerts Vokalensemblet Skrik has cooperated with musicians/artists Frode Alnæs, Bjarte Hjelmeland, Tone Lise Moberg, Tomine Mikkeline Eide, Audun Iversen, Tor Endresen, Eldbjørg Raknes, Jostein Gundersen, Currentes, among others.

Vokalensemblet Skrik have received public grants for elite choirs from the City of Bergen for several years.
